Important 2017 Pony Swim Announcement This year's pony swim (Wednesday, July 26, 2017) will be one of the earliest in many years so we are trying to get the word out now. This is the plan unless we have some unforeseen event that would force us into a later time.
So, plan now, prepare accordingly for an early event.
DC4 (Honor) made its way into the world March 29, followed by DC5 (Glory) March 30, 2017.
We all watched with bated breath on April 20, 2017 when Honor become stuck in the nest, was rescued and successfully returned home the next day.

The Chincoteague Fireman's Carnival (with rides, games, raffles, and lots of good food) will be open each night (Mon - Sat) during pony penning week beginning at 7pm.
Glory accidentally fledged on June 12, 2017, at 10 weeks 4 days old, after making a slight misstep and falling from the nest, landing safely on a branch located below the nest on the nest tree, Eventually, Glory returned to the nest, waited a few more days, and on June 19th made an “official fledge” from the nest.
Honor then followed with her fledge on June 22 at 12 weeks 1 day old.
By the 1970s, the bald eagle was on the brink of extirpation (local extinction) in the United States because of over hunting and pesticide use by humans.This is the first Bald Eagle pair to nest in this location since 1947. President’ and ‘The First Lady.’ The American Eagle Foundation, in cooperation with the USDA, ARS, Alfred State, Department of Energy & Environment, the USF&W Service, and PIKSEL has provided 24/7 live streaming video for 2 years, and we expect the third season to be just as memorable as the first two have been.Two little eaglets hatched in the nest this season, while tens of thousands of excited viewers watched.Come and share a journey of discovery with others who have an enthusiastic desire to continue to learn about the natural world of Virginia and beyond.Advance registration is required for many programs.
